Maggie had a Ph'd in geology, a BA in meteorology, and was a certified instructor in rock climbing, mountaineering, and wilderness survival. She was also licensed to carry most small firearms. (Of course, she tended to pack a large Bowie knife along with the gun, but...)
Maggie wore silver rings - a set of eight, each with stones of blue, green, or purple. The stones were cut in either teardrop, square, or round cuts, with no two adjacent rings containing the same cuts.
