Aikaterine's mother was Lysistrata, high priestess of a small Hermetic cult. Mom was loving, but far too busy to keep a close eye on her daughter. The lesser priests and priestesses often functioned as an informal babysitting network, much to Kat's chagrin.

She has a solid knowledge of thievery (Hermes being the god of thieves, among other things) as part of temple duties, but it's something she rarely indulges in as an adult, though there were numerous non-temple-approved exploits she'll sometimes talk about from her childhood. She also showed a flair for talking her way out of trouble as a child, a skill that serves her well as a diplomat today.

Just a few days before she was due to be inducted into the temple as an initiate, Kat was whisked away by her father Bleys to Athens. Restless within the confines of the temple, this suited her just fine. Once settled within the family, she looked around for something to DO - coming from the temple, doing nothing seemed strange - and settled on the diplomatic corps as a good way to have something interesting to do all the time.

She likes to make little wagers now and then, betting on races and the like, and it was through one of these wagers that she acquired Xanthus and Balius. Their history is still something of a mystery to her, although of course she knows the legend: that the horses were the chariot horses of Achilles, along with a mortal horse who long since met his end, that Xanthus foretold Achilles' death, and both horses were struck dumb by the gods for the foretelling.

As for her and relationships - she's just fine with either gender, but she romances her lovers at length before she agrees to sleep with them.
